My interest in system administration began when I was young, with gaming. Instead of playing games more popular amongst my age group, I was interested in sandbox games where the player was tasked with the designing and implementation of a system that produced an end product. This eventually led to a game that would leave me stranded on an alien planet, with the only expectation of using industrialization to build factories and automate systems to build a space capable ship to return home with. This sparked an enjoyment with overlooking large masses of individually working systems while watching them all work for one purpose.
With my interest in computers already manifested, I eventually wondered what it would be like to run a server with several individual components running. I challenged myself to create a working environment that allowed for a production website to be built and published. I found satisfaction in the configuration of a services and development of my ideal environment. This satisfaction is likely one that a builder would feel while putting up the walls of a house, or an engineer would feel after stepping back and looking down at his final draft for a project. In the end, I reached my goal, smiling, overlooking a working system. I experienced the same satisfaction I found back when playing my favorite games, I knew there was something to this. Through more research, I discovered that I could earn money doing the activity I enjoyed the most. This is my love for system administration.
